This is an excellent role to provide technical leadership to multiple projects that are interfacing with large-scale data processing systems. To ensure timely, reliable and accurate provisioning of data within Digital and to build the strategy around the data capture, treatment and insight provision.

The Role:

• Provide strategic leadership in building a high performing Digital Data Engineering team to become a key driving force in achieving the organisation’s objectives and Digital evolution
• Provide guidance and direction in selection and implementation of the Data Management tools as an enabler to Digital Transformation
• Ensure the Digital Data Engineering team follows the Data Definition, Exchange, Modelling and Integration Standards for the Digital Transformation Programme
• Establish controls that are required to agree, measure and report Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) and realistic targets for the Digital Data Engineering team
• Provide Technical advice and establish thought leadership in new technologies such as Big Data
• Contribute to the Group Data Policy, Principles for Critical Data Ownership and Golden Sources, the Data Quality Framework and the Group Data Architecture and ensure they are adhered to across the Digital Transformation Programme
• Bring innovative ideas to simplify provisioning and engineering of data
• Establish and support new methods to continuously identify data needs across the Digital Transformation programme and drive the development of the necessary infrastructure
• Lead analysis of technical requirements, as well as the Design and Implementation of data engineering solutions

Knowledge & Experience:

• Strong track record of leading Engineering management function in a consumer focused Digital environment
• Experience working with large datasets to develop commercial or customer insight and data products

• Experience with Big Data in Cloud (AWS) – streaming data into a cloud environment

• Extensive experience with a broad range of advanced analytics, data mining, statistical modelling, machine learning, operations research & data science techniques with understanding of their applications and pros & cons
• Knowledge of applying data science in a Big Data technologies environment such as Hadoop and Spark as well as extensive experience of more established database technologies
• Knowledge of data visualisation tools and techniques
• Experience of working with digital business metrics in an e-commerce or high transaction environment
• Commercially minded with excellent presentation, communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
